Asher

Teddy was playing Yahtzee with Rachel and nervously chewing on his locket when I woke from my day-long nap. His eyes lit up when I walked into the room, but I could see the hesitation that lingered. Being so new to all this, he didn’t know what to expect or how long it would take for me to recover. So, for his benefit, I added a little spring to my step and bounced into the kitchen like a golden retriever puppy.

“You’re not cheating, are you sis?”

Dropping the dice onto the table, Teddy then slammed his head against it and wailed.

“Even if she were, I would have no idea. I haven’t understood anything she’s said for the last thirty minutes.”

“Aww, poor bubby.” Rachel and I both cooed before I added, “Does widdle Teddy’s brain hurt?”

“Yes, yes, it does. This game is stupid, and what is the fucking point?”

“And how about your brain, bro? Feeling okay?” Forcing my eyes off Teddy’s cute pout, I glanced over at Rachel for like two seconds before my eyes dragged themselves back to Ted.

“Yes, Rachel. I’m good. You can stop asking me now.”

“What? I’m not allowed to be worried about my little bro? Or am I embarrassing you in front of your boyfriend? Ooohhhh.”

I can’t lie. The urge to walk behind her and pull the seat out from underneath her was strong, and as fun as that always was, I’d woken with a boner that could plug the hole in the Titanic, and the lure of my sexy sulking man before me was too strong.

My man. The way Teddy’s presence in my childhood home turned me on was something I should perhaps speak to his therapist about, but damn. I craved him. Ma had already left to see Dad, kissing me farewell before rushing off. That left only one person standing in the way of orgasmic bliss.

I needed to get rid of my sister, and I needed to do it yesterday.

Tomorrow was St Patrick’s Day—one of the busiest days of the year for a bar. There were a shit ton of plastic clovers to be hung and an ocean of beer to be colored green. I would undoubtedly receive howls of protests from the two clowns currently arguing over Rachel’s ad-lib Yahtzee rules, but the bar was my baby. It needed me like I needed to dick down Ted.

This was a matter of urgency, delicacy, and tact.

“Hmm, hmm.” I cleared my throat and was ignored.

“I don’t know anything about this bloody game, Rachel,” Ted protested, “but I know six plus six does not equal twenty-four.”

I tried again. “Hey guys,”

“Teddy, I told you. They are bonus points. The person who holds the little pencil gets bonus points twice a game.”

“Guys!” They looked up briefly but quickly returned to the argument. “The pencil holder holds the power.”

For fuck’s sake. Time to bring out the big guns.

“RACHEL!” I bellowed, the dice bouncing as I slapped my hands on the table. “For years, you’ve nagged me to come out. Well, I’m out, and now I want you out.
